BLACKBOOKS STENCILS

blackbooks.jpg

In 2004, Andrew Black and BooksIIII registered the eponymous Blackbooks Stencils in the South of Florida. Blackbooks was the first to bridge the gap between an already existing fabrication method and an already existing contemporary stencil movement. They are currently based in Ft. Lauderdale, FL and have frequented the Miami art scene for close to a decade.

“Designing a stencil with the correct bridging is a skill. Creating with the positive and negative, while maintaining the illusion that no bridge exists is the art.” Blackbooks uses this theory to drive their work with every layout and design. Blackbooks has designed and fabricated for numerous corporations, private artists, and galleries and have showcased their work in various Art Fairs and Galleries over the past few years. No matter the client, product, private art piece, or installation, Blackbooks has branded their style into every custom job in more ways than one.

Not to be compared to a typical print shop, Blackbooks hand fabricates many of their own materials, making them laser compatible and entirely original. Blackbooks has created thousands of one-of-a-kind pieces for a plethora of different clientele and is well known
for their hands on involvement with every step of their production. Every single product package is hand painted as is every single brown box shipped from the Blackbooks factory. Over the past few years, hundreds of hand painted and signed cardboard boxes have been
shipped out to mail and never seen again. Many have ended up at the bottom of trash heaps, yet many have ended up on the shelves of collectors’ homes. Blackbooks’ hands-on attitude to production is what makes their products collectable and their artwork sought after.

Blackbooks is also known for fabricating large-scale installations and interior design. While a demand for their fine art grows, you will find Blackbooks participating more and more with galleries and making strides with their graphic design. “We work closely with our clients, using a friendly approach rather than client-based relations, in an effort to hone in on their appetite and be inspired by their concepts and goals, while maintaining our natural style as well.” Blackbooks private art and design is based in part off of their fascination with vintage imagery, film, and written word, as well as the everyday experience of running their company which has become a huge asset in the development of their collective. Sustaining a business while maintaining a balance between fine art and fine clientele.

Blackbooks upholds extremely high standards when it comes to quality. Whether it be their art, products, or services, you will find that the process they are pioneering is increasing in demand and they are most likely the ones you should approach to discuss your next project.
